The guy on the right contributed half of my DNA. He's a computer programmer by profession. That's my cousin, Anne, on the left.

Me. The most recent picture I have of myself. Taken in March 2003 for my passport application. (The nice lady at the photo lab gave me a free set of duplicates.)

"Tune in, Tokyo."

My orange tabby, Macavity, when he was a kitten.

If the definition of intelligence is the ability to manipulate other beings into satisfying your every need and want with minimal to no effort on your part, this cat is an absolute genius. (And we think humans are the smartest animals.)

I can't tell you how many times people have reacted to my cat's name with, "Macavity? You mean like a dental cavity?" Had I anticipated this, I definitely would have opted for a different name. (Possible responses the next time this comes up: "Well, yes. I'm trying to do my part to promote oral hygiene." Or "Actually I was thinking 'body' cavity. Care to guess which?")

Macavity is actually named for a feline character in the Broadway musical, CATS. One of the songs in CATS describes this particular character, Macavity, as "a monster of depravity." He's now a fairly mellow, slightly overweight adult, but if you had known Macavity as a kitten, you'd understand why the concept of a depraved monster really struck home.

The University of Southern Mississippi, where I attend graduate school.

The Speech and Hearing Sciences Building at USM, where I spend 90% of my waking hours.

My siblings, James and Laura.

My sister Laura is a sophomore at the University of Florida.

Though he's only 18 and a senior in high school, my brother James has already had several photographs exhibited in an art gallery in Jacksonville, Florida (my family's hometown). The exhibit featured the works of up-and-coming photographers. James has also made a couple of films (artsy stuff), one of which was shown at an independent theatre in Jacksonville. Very talented kiddo.

See one of James's images from the exhibit below.

Malahide, Ireland, where I will be working this summer. See more about that here.

My former Alameda, CA neighborhood.
